What is pastoral care?Pastoral care is helping individuals and groups within the church, and the local community at specific points of need in their lives by giving practical, spiritual and emotional support, by listening, by guiding and by seeking to establish and restore relationships. This care and help is rooted in the principles and values of the Christian faith. The Pastoral Care TeamRevd. Mary Lodge Val Brant Lin Phazey Lorraine Jaeger Martin Davies Liam Massey Gill FrigerioWhat ever your age or need, if you are: Lonely Housebound Sick Not sure who to turn to Not coping Worried Facing bereavement Difficult relationships Need practical help Need someone to listen Need help with arranging a Baptism Marriage Funeral Please get in touch with us.Who does it?All members of the church are called to undertake some aspect of pastoral care in being good friends, neighbours and work colleagues. But specific pastoral care services are offered and undertaken by both Ordained and Lay Ministers with regard to visiting the sick at home and in hospital; preparation for marriage; preparation for baptism; ministering to those who are dying, to those who have been bereaved, and to those who are in distress and trouble of any kind. The Pastoral Care Team at St Michael's seek to organise the response to specific requests for help and to create ways in which people can gain access to the help and support they need within the community. Older PeopleOlder people are welcomed at all our services and events, but for those who prefer a more traditional style of worship there is a Young at Heart service every first Thursday of each month at 10.30am at St Michael's Church. Refreshments are served after the service. There is an exercise (gentle!) class in the Church Centre on every last Friday of the month from 10am to 11.30am. Refreshments are included and the class also encourages prayer and fellowship. Every third Thursday of each month an informal group meets at Hampton-on-the-Hill Village Hall from 10.30am - 11.30am for prayer and fellowship and refreshments! We visit and support those older people who are housebound or going through difficult times and they can receive Holy Communion at home if they wish. For more details contact Revd. Mary Lodge The Link Support NetworkSt Michael's Church Link Network aims to make sure that we stay in contact with one another. Each member of the church has a link person who will keep in touch with them, will pray for them and keep them informed of Church activities if they have been unable to attend their normal service or group. The chain can be accessed via any Lighthouse, or via The Church Centre Office Names of people who need prayer because they are sick, bereaved or in difficulty of any kind are also printed on the weekly Church Notice sheet. If you would like your name or the name of a friend or relative put on this list please contact The Church Centre Office Please check that the person is happy for their name to appear on the list first. We meet once a week for about six weeks and follow a programme covering various issues facing parents like listening, discipline, encouragement and communication. We are hoping to offer programmes specifically relating to pre-school age children, five to fifteen year olds and teenagers. For more details contact Lorraine Jaeger Time to RememberOccasionally, a special time is set aside in the parish to enable people who have been bereaved to come together to remember their loved ones. The event has been held in different venues, e.g. the church and Hampton-on-the-Hill Village Hall, and includes music, songs, readings or poetry chosen by those who have been bereaved. This is a quiet, reflective and very moving time, which has been a source of great comfort to those who have lost loved ones.If you would like to find out more about this event, please contact Revd.
